Rescue operations in the Amur region of Russia have taken a critical turn as authorities have confirmed the discovery of the wreckage of an Angara Airlines An-24 aircraft. The plane, which was carrying 43 passengers and six crew members, had disappeared from radar approximately 16 kilometers (10 miles) from its destination, Tynda airport.
The flight had departed from Blagoveshchensk, a city near the Chinese border, and was nearing the end of its journey when contact was lost. Shortly after, emergency officials reported that a Russian civil aviation helicopter had observed burning fuselage at the crash site. The Amur civil defense center announced that the wreckage had been located on a hillside close to where the plane was last tracked. Rescuers are now en route to the site in a bid to assess the situation and provide assistance as needed.
