Telegram Founder Paves Way for His Over 100 Children with Unconventional Will
Pavel Durov, the creator of Telegram, announces plans to divide his $13.9 billion fortune among more than 100 children he fathered through various means.
Pavel Durov, the billionaire founder of the instant messaging platform Telegram, has revealed an astonishing plan to ensure that the more than 100 children he fathered will share his estimated $13.9 billion ($10.3 billion) fortune. Durov, who openly identified as the "official father" of six children from three different relationships, further claims to have more than 100 other offspring for whom he donated sperm at a fertility clinic.
In an interview with the French political magazine Le Point, Durov expressed his desire for his children to have equal rights and shared inheritance. "They are all my children and will all have the same rights! I don't want them to tear each other apart after my death," he stated. However, he also announced that they would not access their inheritance until they reach the age of 30. This delay in access is designed to encourage them to live independently, build their own lives, and develop self-reliance without relying on a hefty bank account.
The 40-year-old entrepreneur mentioned that he decided to draft this will due to the "risks" his profession entails, stating that "defending freedoms earns you many enemies, including within powerful states." Durov's controversial position had recently drawn scrutiny, particularly due to serious criminal charges he is facing in France. He was arrested last year after being accused of failing to sufficiently moderate the app to prevent criminal activity.
In the interview, he insisted that the charges are "totally absurd," emphasizing that the association of criminals with their messaging service should not lead to criminal liability for Telegram's operators. "Just because criminals use our messaging service among many others doesn't make those who run it criminals," he remarked.
As Telegram continues to grow in popularity with over a billion active monthly users, the platform remains a focal point in discussions about privacy and censorship in the digital age. Durov’s unorthodox approach to family and inheritance reflects his belief in creating a legacy rooted in empowerment over wealth.
