Air India Crash Survivor Attends Brother’s Funeral Amidst Tragedy

Vishwashkumar Ramesh, the sole survivor of last week's tragic Air India plane crash, attended the funeral of his brother Ajay, who lost his life in the disaster. Ramesh, visibly distressed and bandaged from his own injuries, was one of the pallbearers carrying his brother's coffin in Diu, India.

The London-bound Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner crashed mere seconds after takeoff from Ahmedabad, resulting in the loss of at least 270 lives, including many of the passengers on board. Ramesh’s mother mournfully walked alongside the procession, which was attended by locals from their community that also lost multiple members in the crash, all while enduring the heavy rain.

Survivorship of Ramesh remains a question as he made attempts to return to the burning plane in search of his brother, with first responders, including ambulance driver Satinder Singh Sandhu, recalling that Ramesh seemed unaware of the danger as flames engulfed the crash site. Videos from the scene show him emerging from the wreckage, escorted by Sandhu, who only later learned that he had aided the sole survivor.

Ajay, who was seated just a few rows away from Vishwashkumar on the ill-fated flight, did not survive the devastating impact of the plane, which collided with a building, leading to multiple fatalities on the ground as well.

First responders quickly treated Ramesh's injuries before he was rushed to a hospital. In later interviews, he expressed disbelief at his survival and his deep sorrow over losing his brother. The cause of the crash remains under investigation, as experts work to analyze the recovered black box to determine what went wrong on that fateful day.
