ZZ Top’s Longtime Drummer Frank Beard Passes Away at 77
A statement on the blues‑rock band’s website confirmed that drummer Frank Beard, 77, died in hospice care on Monday at his ranch in Richmond, Texas, surrounded by family. The cause of death was not disclosed.
The band announced the cancellation of their tour dates scheduled for this week in Utah and Colorado. ZZ Top, formed in 1969, has released fifteen studio albums and four live recordings, with classic hits such as “Gimme All Your Lovin” and “Viva Las Vegas.”
Founder and lead vocalist Billy Gibbons expressed mourning: “Today, Elwood and I lost a great friend and collaborator, and the world lost one of the most naturally innovative drummers and a true son of Texas.” The band continues to honor Beard’s legacy and is planning to resume the “The Big One!
