Vincent Pastore, The Sopranos Star, Dies at 80

Veteran actor Vincent Pastore, best known for his enduring role as Salvatore "Big Pussy" Bonpensiero in HBO’s The Sopranos, died on 1 August 2026 at the age of 80. He was found at his Bronx residence, with no indication of foul play.

Pastore’s portrayal of Tony Soprano’s close confidant became one of the series’ most memorable moments, even though his character was killed off in the second season. Despite leaving the show early, he remained a beloved figure in the television community.

Manager Robert Attermann told CBS News, “To the world, he will always be remembered as the unforgettable ‘Big Pussy,’ but to those of us who knew him, he was so much more.” He added that Pastore “loved being an actor” and generously supported young talent.

Pastore entered the acting arena after serving in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. His film credits include Goodfellas, Carlito’s Way, and early work on Law & Order, General Hospital, and Hawaii Five‑O. In 2000, he and the rest of the Sopranos ensemble received the SAG Award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series.

For fans and colleagues alike, Pastore leaves behind a legacy of authenticity and mentorship within an ever‑evolving entertainment landscape.
