US President Donald Trump has said he still intends to take legal action against the BBC over how his speech was edited by Panorama.

Speaking to reporters on board Air Force One on Friday evening, Trump stated: We'll sue them for anywhere between a billion and $5bn probably sometime next week.

He also mentioned plans to discuss the matter with UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer over the weekend. The BBC admitted their edit of the January 6, 2021 speech gave a mistaken impression that Trump called for violent action.

While the BBC issued an apology, they confirmed that they would not provide any financial compensation.

Earlier this week, Trump's legal team had warned they would pursue a $1 billion lawsuit unless the BBC issued a formal retraction, an apology, and compensated him. They set a deadline for the BBC to respond, which the corporation met.

This controversy has already led to the resignations of BBC director general Tim Davie and head of news Deborah Turness.

As of now, searches of public court records indicate that no legal action has been officially filed by Trump's team. It is expected that any case would be initiated in Florida, but federal and state courts are currently closed for the weekend.

This is a breaking news story and will be updated shortly.
