Medical Plane with Six on Board Missing Off Massachusetts Coast: Search Underway

Early Saturday morning, a Gulfstream G‑100 medical aircraft that was destined for Boston’s Logan International Airport vanished off the coast of Nantucket, Massachusetts. Flight data indicates the plane, operated by Latitude Air Ambulances, departed from Bermuda’s L.F. Wade International Airport at 23:40 local time and was scheduled to land in Boston at 01:30 EDT.

The Federal Aviation Administration reported that it lost contact with the aircraft just after 01:00 local time (06:00 GMT) and issued a search‑and‑rescue notice. The U.S. Coast Guard’s Northeast District launched an air and water search in the waters surrounding Nantucket.

Flight tracking shows the aircraft plummeted from about 7,300 m (24,000 ft) to roughly 3,300 m (11,000 ft) before radio communications went silent. Audio excerpts from air traffic control suggest an emergency declaration, yet the exact cause remains unclear. An area fire dispatcher indicated the plane had experienced an electrical issue and had lost both radio and radar contact.

Those aboard included two pilots and two Canadian medical staff, along with a patient and a relative who are not Canadian. Latitude Air Ambulances said its crew was aboard to transfer a patient from Bermuda to the United States. The search continues as investigators examine potential mechanical failure, pilot incapacitation, or other in‑flight emergencies.
