NEW YORK (Echosphere News) — This year's Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade kicks off on Thursday in New York City, introducing new balloons including eco-conscious characters alongside familiar favorites.
The parade will commence at 8:30 a.m. EST from the Upper West Side, concluding at Macy's flagship store in Herald Square. Expected temperatures in the 40s with strong wind gusts will add to the chill, prompting organizers to monitor weather conditions closely.
New in 2023 is Macy's commitment to sustainability, incorporating eco-friendly materials in the float designs and featuring educational performances highlighting climate awareness. This year's balloons include a large onion carriage with characters from “Shrek”, and new characters from “KPop Demon Hunters”.
New York Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch has assured the public of heightened safety as thousands of officers will be present to manage the crowds and any protests that may arise, reflective of the event's complex socio-political landscape.
The parade will be a showcase of entertainment, featuring an exciting lineup that includes performers from Broadway's “Wicked” and the beloved Radio City Rockettes, ensuring a mix of tradition and modernity.
Families and visitors can expect to see familiar floats, numerous marching bands, and of course, Santa Claus making his grand entrance to ring in the holiday season. Broadcast live on NBC, the event also promotes the idea of responsible celebration amidst the festivities.
