PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Six days after the tragic mass shooting incident at Brown University, law enforcement officials announced that they are investigating a potential connection between this incident and a separate shooting that occurred two days later near Boston, which resulted in the death of an MIT professor. According to sources familiar with the investigation, authorities have identified a person of interest and are actively pursuing leads. The attack at Brown resulted in two student fatalities and injuries to nine others inside the university’s engineering building.

In the aftermath of the shooting, authorities have appealed to the public for any video evidence from the week leading up to the attack, as they suspect the shooter may have scouted the area beforehand. Unfortunately, the attack took place in a section of the engineering building that lacks security cameras, making it difficult to gather much useful footage.

Investigators have since released video clips showing a masked individual, purported to be the shooter, moving in the vicinity around the time of the incident. However, the lack of identifiable footage has only heightened the frustration in Providence as the community grapples with safety concerns.

Providence officials, including the city’s mayor, have acknowledged the panic and worry experienced by residents, especially as they confront questions about safety over the upcoming holiday season. In a statement, he voiced efforts to ensure the town's safety while indicating the challenges faced by the police in capturing such elusive suspects.

Experts in criminal investigations draw attention to the rarity of individuals escaping after such high-profile attacks. In numerous past incidents, shooters have either been apprehended swiftly or taken their own lives. However, when suspects do manage to evade authorities, the investigations can be prolonged, as noted by Katherine Schweit, a retired FBI agent.
