Brigitte Macron's daughter has testified in a Paris court that the persistent sexist cyber-bullying targeted toward her mother has adversely affected both her health and mental well-being.

Tiphaine Auzière, 41, who is the stepdaughter of French President Emmanuel Macron, spoke on the second day of the trial involving ten individuals accused of disseminating false claims related to Brigitte Macron's gender and sexuality.

For years, Mrs. Macron, 72, has faced the weight of conspiracy theories alleging that she is transgender, claims that Ms. Auzière stated have led to a noticeable decline in her mother’s quality of life.

It is important to be here today to express the harm my mother has faced. I wanted to give an account of what her life has been like since the moment she started being targeted by these attacks, commented Ms. Auzière during her testimony. She described a tangible shift in her mother's state since these rumors began circulating, indicating that Brigitte now takes great care in her choices of clothing and her public presence to avoid further backlash.

Notably, this issue has extended beyond Brigitte Macron, impacting her grandchildren as they faced ridicule in school. She hasn’t been elected, she hasn’t asked anything of anyone, and she comes under attack, Ms. Auzière declared.

Prosecutors are seeking to impose suspended prison sentences ranging from three to twelve months for the accused, along with hefty fines that could reach €8,000.

The defendants, aged between 41 to 65, include a teacher and an elected official. One defendant, Aurélien Poirson-Atlan, has come under fire for claiming Mrs. Macron is transgender, while others have invoked “freedom of expression” as a defense for their actions, despite the tangible harm caused.

The Macron family has indicated that they will produce photographic and scientific evidence in a separate legal case against right-wing influencer Candace Owens, who has made similar derogatory claims about Mrs. Macron’s identity.

As court proceedings continue, the spotlight remains on the severe implications of cyber-bullying and its effects on individuals and families in the public eye.}
