MINCO, Okla. — A school bus carrying members of a local softball team was involved in a serious accident on Monday night when it collided with a deer, leading to the bus overturning and resulting in injuries to seven passengers, according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.

The incident occurred on State Highway 152 near Minco, which is approximately 40 miles southwest of Oklahoma City. At the time of the accident, the bus had 17 passengers, including students and coaches.

As of Tuesday morning, one adult who was ejected during the crash remained in critical condition, while four students were reported to be in stable condition. Initially, it was reported that eight people were injured; however, this number was later updated to seven as some students were taken from the scene by their parents before law enforcement arrived.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol indicated that they are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash in collaboration with the National Transportation Safety Board.

Minco Public Schools Superintendent Kevin Sims noted that the bus was equipped with seat belts, but only the driver's seat was outfitted with a belt. Classes were canceled at Minco Public Schools for the day, and the community is coming together in support of those affected.

Sims expressed deep concern and urged for prayers for the student-athletes, coaches, and their families. Various community leaders and local churches offered support, emphasizing the need for solidarity in such challenging times.

The softball team was on its way to a scheduled game against the Riverside Indian School in Anadarko, located roughly 35 miles southwest of Minco. The local faith community has opened their sanctuary for prayer as the community processes this unfortunate event.
