Halle Bailey Secures Restraining Order Against Abusive Ex-Boyfriend DDG
Actress and singer Halle Bailey takes legal action against her former partner amid allegations of abuse.
In a troubling turn of events, actress and musician Halle Bailey recently obtained a restraining order against her ex-boyfriend and rapper DDG, formally known as Darryl Dwayne Granberry Jr. The order was issued by a judge in Los Angeles after Bailey alleged a series of abusive incidents that raised grave concerns for the safety of both her and their one-year-old son, Halo.
Bailey detailed multiple incidents of physical violence and emotional distress throughout their relationship, which began in 2022 and ended in October of the previous year. "Darryl has been and continues to be physically, verbally, emotionally, and financially abusive towards me," Bailey stated in court documents. Her plea for protection from the alleged ongoing abuse includes requests for legal measures to secure her and her child's well-being.
The situation escalated after an alleged violent altercation in January, during which Bailey described an incident where Granberry physically assaulted her while she was securing their child in a car seat. She claimed he pulled her hair and slammed her face against the steering wheel, resulting in a chipped tooth. Bailey presented evidence including photographs showcasing her injuries to bolster her case.
In the days following the dispute, Bailey accused Granberry of entering her home without permission, threatening her with messages that implied infidelity. Tensions culminated when he allegedly shattered her Ring doorbell camera and physically restrained her while she was trying to call for help. In response to these incidents, Bailey filed a police report documenting the abuse.
Amidst these allegations, the court's restraining order also prohibits Granberry from possessing weapons. A subsequent hearing is scheduled for June 6, where the judge may extend the order for up to five years.
Moreover, Bailey has requested that Granberry cease using social media to spread negative rhetoric about her, expressing concern over the threats and vitriol directed toward her as a result of his statements.
Bailey, who gained recognition as part of the musical duo Chloe x Halle, has continued to shine in the entertainment industry with her breakthrough role as Ariel in Disney's live-action adaptation of The Little Mermaid. Meanwhile, DDG, who initially rose to fame as a YouTube content creator, has released several albums since signing with a record label in 2018.
As these developments unfold, Bailey's situation serves as a poignant reminder of the important dialogue surrounding domestic abuse and the necessity for support and protection for victims.
