High-Profile Sports Agent Accused of Serious Crimes in Controversial Lawsuit
Jonathan Barnett faces grave allegations in a US lawsuit regarding alleged trafficking and abuse over several years.
High-profile British sports agent Jonathan Barnett is facing serious allegations in a lawsuit filed in the US, where a woman, identified as "Jane Doe," claims he raped her over 39 times during a six-year period. The complaint, lodged in Los Angeles, accuses Barnett of "trafficking" the woman from Australia to the UK in 2017 while subjecting her to threats and torture.
Barnett, 75, who has represented prominent sports figures such as Gareth Bale and Jack Grealish, has denied the allegations, asserting that they are baseless and untrue. His legal team stated they will fiercely contest the claims, expressing confidence in his eventual vindication.
The civil case asserts that Barnett first met "Jane Doe" in the 1990s through a professional connection and later reestablished contact online, culminating in her relocation to the UK with her children—expenses covered by Barnett's agency, CAA Stellar. Upon her arrival, she alleges that he stated he "owned" her and began the cycle of abuse.
The lawsuit further describes heinous acts imposed by Barnett, including imposing strict control, requiring her to refer to him as "My Master,” and subjecting her to extreme dehumanization, such as forced consumption of bodily waste. "Jane Doe" claims to have endured physical and emotional torment throughout their relationship, living under constant fear for her safety and that of her children.
In addition to Barnett, the lawsuit also targets Creative Artists Agency and CAA Stellar, arguing that they were complicit in the alleged abuse by failing to investigate substantial payments made to her while she was not involved professionally with any of the agencies. The complaint claims that Barnett's emails included references to the woman as "slave."
Legal representatives for "Jane Doe" emphasize that the case highlights "institutional abuse at the highest level" and seek compensation for her alleged suffering. Meanwhile, CAA maintains that it only learned of the allegations recently and insists that "Jane Doe" has never had a professional connection to their organizations. The agency took the matter seriously and urged the victim to report her claims to law enforcement.
