Impersonating Healing: ‘Fake Nurse’ Arrested After Treating Over 4,000 Patients
A woman in Florida has been arrested for posing as a nurse and treating countless patients, prompting an investigation into medical fraud.
A shocking case of medical fraud has emerged in Florida, where Autumn Bardisa, 29, was arrested for impersonating a registered nurse after treating over 4,000 patients. The investigation began when hospital authorities at AdventHealth Palm Coast Parkway expressed concerns regarding her qualifications, leading to the termination of her contract from July 2023.
Authorities uncovered that Bardisa had been operating without a valid nursing license, having submitted false documents including a nursing license number belonging to a legitimate nurse with the same first name. Bardisa allegedly explained this mismatch by claiming a recent marriage and a name change, yet failed to provide corroborating documents when requested.
The situation escalated when a colleague reported her to the authorities after discovering that her nursing assistant license had expired. What followed was a meticulous seven-month investigation, culminating in Bardisa’s arrest at her home on August 5, 2025, while she was still clad in nursing scrubs.
Flagler County Sheriff Rick Staly expressed grave concerns about the potential risks to thousands of patients, stating, "This woman potentially put thousands of lives at risk by pretending to be someone she was not and violating the trust of patients." Following her arrest, Bardisa faces serious charges, including seven counts of practicing without a license and seven counts of fraudulent use of personal identification.
To assist with ongoing investigations, the Sheriff’s Office has set up a dedicated email address for anyone who suspects they may have been treated by Bardisa. She is currently being held at the Sheriff Perry Hall Inmate Detention Facility, with bail set at $70,000 (approximately £52,000).
