In a demanding diplomatic landscape, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa faced challenges during a meeting with President Donald Trump that was supposed to mend relations but instead highlighted the complexity of contemporary diplomacy. Ramaphosa, hoping to strike the right tone, attempted to lighten the atmosphere with a golf joke and expressed gratitude toward Trump for providing respirators during the pandemic, stating, “It really touched my heart.”

The meeting, held in the Oval Office, aimed to bypass the contentious topic of Trump's unfounded claims of "white genocide," which have sparked global criticism and are largely considered misinformation.
