**Escalation of Violence: Russia Strikes Ukrainian Shopping Centre, Casualties Reported**

At least two people have lost their lives and 27 others have been injured in a horrifying air strike by Russian forces on a shopping centre in Dobropillia, located in Ukraine’s eastern Donetsk region. This devastating incident, which took place on Wednesday evening, has raised concerns about the ongoing conflict, especially as efforts for peace continue to falter.

Regional governor Vadym Filashkin reported on Telegram that the assault significantly impacted the local infrastructure, damaging over 50 shops, around 300 residential apartments, and destroying eight vehicles. President Volodymyr Zelensky referred to the strike as “simply horrific,” emphasizing the lack of military justification for targeting civilian areas. Russia has yet to issue a response.

Filashkin condemned the attack, stating that it was deliberate and targeted at a bustling shopping area. The 500-kg (1,100-pound) bomb detonated around 17:20 local time, coinciding with peak shopping hours. Dobropillia, positioned approximately 20 km (12 miles) from the front lines, has been subjected to numerous attacks since the commencement of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022, with a particularly deadly strike in March claiming 11 lives, including those of five children.

In tandem with this event, Moscow’s Mayor Sergei Sobyanin announced that Russian defense forces successfully intercepted three drones aimed at the capital early Thursday morning, although he did not disclose any details regarding potential casualties. Meanwhile, discussions between U.S. special envoy Keith Kellogg and Ukrainian President Zelensky are ongoing, focusing on US-Ukrainian cooperation amid the escalating violence.

The recent spate of attacks has alarmed international observers, with the United Nations reporting a grim statistic: over 230 civilians were killed in Ukraine in June alone, marking it the deadliest month since the war’s onset. U.S. President Donald Trump has expressed frustration over the failure to achieve a ceasefire, indicating that severe sanctions might be applied to Moscow if a peace deal is not reached swiftly.
