The 29-year-old athlete had been visiting a Tanzanian friend when the incident occurred. After his fall, Lawal was rushed to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Witnesses reported that Lawal was alone in the mall while his friend, identified as Omary Naima, was preparing tea in another room within the mall complex. Entertainment media initially reported that he died in a motorcycle accident, casting a shadow of confusion over the exact details of his demise. Lawal had been with Vipers Sports Club since July 2022, following a two-year stint with AS Kigali in Rwanda. His current team expressed condolences, stating, "Lawal (Man from Sokoto) was a unique person. He had a big heart of gold. He really cared about people and went out of his way to help. He was incredibly generous."
Tributes have poured in for the striker from across the football community.
