US Congress Approves Trump's Major Tax and Spending Bill Amid Controversy

The House has narrowly passed Donald Trump's expansive budget proposal, which promises significant tax cuts but raises concerns over its fiscal impact and healthcare ramifications.

The US Congress has successfully passed Donald Trump's substantial tax and spending bill, which aims to simplify the budget and invigorate the economy. However, critics warn that it may worsen the deficit and limit healthcare access for millions, sparking fierce debates on Capitol Hill.

The US Congress has officially passed what President Donald Trump refers to as his 'big, beautiful bill'—a sweeping tax and spending legislation that promises to reshape the nation's financial landscape. The bill, which passed the House of Representatives with a tight 218 to 214 vote after an arduous debate, was previously approved by the Senate. Trump had urged lawmakers to finalize the bill by the Fourth of July, when he plans to sign it into law.

The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) projects that the legislation could add $3.3 trillion to federal deficits over the next decade while potentially depriving millions of health coverage—a prediction that the White House challenges. President Trump hailed the bill as transformative, suggesting that it would propel the country towards fiscal prosperity.

After the vote, Republican Speaker of the House Mike Johnson expressed his gratitude for party unity, highlighting the importance of belief in rallying support. Notably, one recovering opponent in the votes was Representative Chip Roy, who had previously criticized the Senate version but reversed his position just before the House vote.

The final tally saw only two Republican lawmakers voting against the bill amidst a boisterous response from GOP members celebrating the narrow win. However, the passage faced strong opposition, led by House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, whose nearly nine-hour speech delayed the proceedings and criticized the bill's impact on vulnerable Americans.

The legislation achieves multiple campaign promises for Trump, including making past tax cuts permanent and revising tax regulations related to tips and overtime wages. In addition to substantial defense and border security allocations, the bill also proposes cuts to vital programs such as food benefits and healthcare for economically disadvantaged citizens.

Democrats expressed outrage at the bill's implications, branding it as a suite of extreme policies favoring the wealthy while endangering public welfare. Prominent Democratic leaders characterized the passage as a dark moment for American equity and a betrayal of public trust, with others lamenting the adverse effects on the most vulnerable segments of society.

Despite being a significant victory for Trump's administration, the bill's future implementation raises numerous questions regarding its long-term fiscal health and its potential consequences for millions of Americans depending on essential services.
