As the holiday season approaches, it's the perfect time to embrace new cookie baking traditions.
Cookie hive, gather together! The holiday season is once again upon us, and with that comes a celebration of one of life’s simple joys — cookies! I’m Vaughn, the host of Cookie Week at New York Times Cooking, a delicious tradition that takes holiday baking to a whole new level. This year, we’ve filled our lineup with seven exciting cookie recipes complemented by fun video tutorials from renowned chefs like Sohla El-Waylly, Melissa Clark, and Eric Kim. Preparing these delightful treats promises to be a whimsical and tasty endeavor.
Our focus this year is on breathing new life into beloved classics. With colorful reinventions of shortbread, festive flavor combinations, and creative shapes, Cookie Week is a feast for both the eyes and the taste buds. Back in July, we began brainstorming and drawing inspiration from warm holiday memories. Visions of Yule logs, rocky roads, and hot buttered rum danced through our minds, guiding our creative process.
After months of meticulous planning, testing, filming, and, of course, intense quality control (a job I take very seriously), our cookies finally made their grand entrance last week. Like the iconic duo Elphaba and Glinda from “Wicked,” our line-up of cookies has truly transformed me for the better.
Among the standout recipes is Sohla's delightful holiday rocky road — a no-bake treat featuring marshmallows, nuts, and a decadent chocolate coating. By incorporating cookie butter into the melted chocolate, it achieves a rich, fudgy texture that melts in your mouth. Adorned with gumdrops and colorful sprinkles, this cookie is not only a visual feast but also incredibly quick to prepare, making it perfect for holiday gifting and delightful snacking.
With such a diverse and enticing array of cookies, this Cookie Week is sure to bring the extra sweetness to your holiday celebrations.
