Thief Swallows $769,500 Worth of Tiffany Earrings Before Arrest
A Florida man faces serious charges after swallowing stolen earrings just before being apprehended.
In an unusual turn of events, a Florida man named Jaythan Gilder has been accused of swallowing stolen Tiffany & Co. earrings valued at over half a million dollars just moments before his arrest. The incident occurred last week in Orlando, where Gilder allegedly deceived store employees by claiming to represent a "professional athlete," which enabled him to view multiple high-value jewelry pieces.
After allegedly stealing two pairs of earrings, totaling $769,500 (£597,000), along with a diamond ring he dropped during his escape, Gilder was pursued by the police. Officers caught up with him later that day, witnessing him swallowing objects suspected to be the stolen earrings. Authorities later released an x-ray image showing a foreign object inside a person's abdomen, although they have not confirmed whether the stolen jewelry has been recovered.
This isn't Gilder's first brush with the law regarding theft; he reportedly robbed a Tiffany store in Texas in 2022 and has 48 outstanding warrants in Colorado. He is now facing serious charges, including robbery with a mask and grand theft in the first degree, involving stolen goods exceeding $100,000. As per legal standards, he remains presumed innocent until a court determines otherwise.
