In a recently filed lawsuit, Smokey Robinson and his wife claim that the sexual assault allegations made by four former housekeepers are fabricated and aimed at extortion. The Robinsons assert that the women, who initially filed their case anonymously, are misrepresenting past interactions, while they also face a criminal investigation related to these accusations.

Smokey Robinson Takes Legal Action Against Defamation in Assault Allegations
The Motown icon seeks $500 million in damages from four former housekeepers who accused him of sexual assault, labeling their claims as false.
Motown legend Smokey Robinson has initiated a defamation lawsuit seeking $500 million against four former housekeepers who have made allegations of sexual assault against him. The suit, filed on Wednesday in California, describes the accusations as "false and extremely damaging" and asserts that the women are engaged in an "extortionate" legal maneuver.
The legal action, also involving his wife Frances, contends that the accusers have fabricated their claims despite having had friendly, familial interactions with the Robinsons over the years, including holidays together. The 85-year-old singer, who is currently under criminal investigation in Los Angeles regarding these allegations, firmly denies any wrongdoing, stating that the individuals behind the accusations have ulterior financial motives.
Mr. Robinson's legal team has also filed motions to dismiss the women's lawsuit, emphasizing that anonymity should not be afforded to those making serious claims. Their complaint states, "The Robinsons did not abuse, harm, or take advantage of plaintiffs; they treated plaintiffs with the utmost kindness and generosity."
The women, who filed under the pseudonyms Jane Doe 1, 2, 3, and 4, have alleged multiple incidents of sexual coercion dating back to 2006. They assert that fear of jeopardizing their livelihoods, family repercussions, and even immigration status has kept them silent until now. In seeking at least $50 million in damages, they are pursuing a jury trial for their case, which they originally filed on May 6 in Los Angeles Superior Court.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department has since launched an investigation into the matter, which Mr. Robinson has expressed willingness to welcome, asserting that "exposure to the truth is a powerful thing." Known for writing iconic hits, Robinson is a pivotal figure in music history, with over 4,000 songwriting credits and accolades including inductions into the Rock & Roll and Songwriters Halls of Fame.
