Three individuals have been charged in connection with the tragic death of One Direction’s Liam Payne, according to officials in Argentina. The singer, known for his time on The X Factor and as a member of the globally successful boyband, died on October 16 after a fall from the third-floor balcony of a hotel in Buenos Aires.
Argentinian prosecutors revealed that one individual who was with Payne at the time is charged with abandonment followed by death, as well as supplying and facilitating drugs. Both a hotel staff member and another unnamed person face similar charges for supplying drugs. The investigation has drawn significant public interest due to Payne's celebrity status, and officials are keen to uncover the full circumstances surrounding his final days at the CasaSur hotel.
Initial inquiries and toxicology reports indicated that Payne had alcohol, cocaine, and a prescription antidepressant in his system. The post-mortem examination concluded that his cause of death was "multiple trauma" along with "internal and external hemorrhage" resulting from the balcony fall. Further legal action has seen authorities execute nine raids across various locations in Buenos Aires as part of the ongoing investigation. Efforts are also in place to analyze Payne's damaged laptop and other electronic devices that were seized during the inquiry.
