Portuguese police begin a new search as investigations link a German suspect to the 2007 case of Madeleine McCann, who went missing as a toddler.**
As part of the ongoing investigation into the unexplained disappearance of Madeleine McCann, Portuguese police have recommenced searches in the southern Algarve region, near the Praia da Luz resort where the British girl was last seen in May 2007. The operation, which began on Monday and is set to conclude on Friday, aims to gather new evidence related to the case.
The searches were prompted by a legal directive from German authorities, linked to Christian Brückner, a German man who is a primary suspect in Madeleine's case. The Polícia Judiciária, Portugal's national criminal investigation agency, announced the operations, stressing that all collected evidence would be handed over to the German Federal Criminal Police Service, pending authorization from the national Public Prosecutor’s Office.
The London-based Metropolitan Police, which managed the original investigation, has acknowledged the new searches but has not sent teams to the site at this time. They have offered to provide assistance if required.
Christian Brückner, 48, currently serves a seven-year prison sentence in Germany for the rape of an American woman, an incident occurred in Praia da Luz in 2005. His connections to the McCann case have raised serious concerns and have intensified the ongoing investigation, nearly two decades after Madeleine's mysterious vanishing during her family's holiday.
