The BBC's decision follows a detailed investigation substantiating numerous allegations against the television personality.
The BBC announced on Monday that it would sever its working relationship with Gregg Wallace, the well-known host of “MasterChef,” after an investigation confirmed multiple allegations of sexual misconduct against him. Out of the 83 complaints lodged, 45 were deemed credible by the network, which included three cases of him being found "in a state of undress" and instances of unwanted physical contact. Many of the allegations highlighted inappropriate sexual language and humor, alongside reports of comments that were culturally and racially insensitive.
The investigation, carried out by the law firm Lewis Silkin, probed incidents spanning nearly two decades from 2005 to 2024, gathering testimonies from 78 witnesses over a seven-month period. The findings prompted Banijay, the production company behind “MasterChef,” to declare that Wallace’s participation in the show was no longer feasible due to the “volume and consistency of substantiated allegations.”
In response to the claims, Wallace issued a statement through social media where he refuted several allegations. However, he later deleted the post, which included his admission of using inappropriate humor at times. "I apologize without reservation," he stated. He painted his past persona as a "cheeky greengrocer” and lamented how, in today's climate, his personality was mischaracterized as problematic.
