At least four individuals have lost their lives and several remain missing following a devastating avalanche in the mountain region of Uttarakhand, northern India. The disaster struck on Friday in the village of Mana, located near the border with Tibet, burying road construction workers under substantial snow and debris.
Rescue operations have quickly been mobilized, with around 50 people rescued from the aftermath of the avalanche. However, the Indian Army has confirmed that four of those rescued succumbed to their injuries. Helicopters are also being utilized to locate five individuals who are still unaccounted for in this treacherous Himalayan region.
Uttarakhand's Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami reported that rescue teams are actively engaged in relief efforts. In a statement, he emphasized the government’s dedication to assisting those affected during this challenging time, vowing to provide all available resources to support victims and their families.

In anticipation of more extreme weather, the India Meteorological Department issued alerts describing the heavy rainfall and snowfall affecting northern states, including Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir. Distress signals regarding particularly severe conditions were also raised for several districts in these regions, exacerbating the already precarious situation faced by the local population and rescue teams.
