The Tottenham captain, Son Heung-min, has filed a criminal complaint in South Korea after being targeted in an alleged blackmail scheme involving false pregnancy claims.
Tottenham Hotspur captain Son Heung-min has officially lodged a criminal complaint with South Korean authorities after falling victim to an alleged blackmail plot. Reports indicate that a woman is accused of threatening the footballer with a false pregnancy claim in a bid to extort money from him. The incident has been confirmed by the Gangnam Police Station in Seoul, which has detained both the woman in her 20s and a man in his 40s on charges of extortion and attempted extortion.
According to South Korean news agency Yonhap, the woman allegedly approached Son last year, asserting she was pregnant with his child and demanding financial compensation for her silence. In a concerning escalation, the man is reported to have contacted Son again in March, reiterating the demands for money.
Son's management agency stated unequivocally that the football icon is a “clear victim” in this troubling scenario, asserting that they are taking the matter seriously. "Son & Football Limited has filed a criminal complaint for blackmail against individuals who threatened the player by claiming they would spread false information," the agency said in a recent public statement.
South Korean police are currently investigating the allegations, with authorities promising a thorough examination of the evidence. The agency has vowed to pursue strong legal action against those responsible for the intimidation tactics based on these unfounded claims.
As these events unfold, Son, who has been a key player for Spurs since his transfer from Bayer Leverkusen in 2015, continues to prepare with his team for their upcoming Europa League final against Manchester United in Bilbao. Son has netted an impressive 173 goals in 451 matches for Tottenham, making him an integral figure in the team.
Updates regarding the investigation will be provided as new information becomes available.
