Trump Announces US Strikes on Iran In Honour of Fallen Soldiers

President Donald Trump said the latest US airstrikes against Iranian military targets hit Iran very hard and were in honour of three US soldiers killed — two in Jordan and one in Iraq.

Early Monday, US Central Command said it launched a new wave of strikes for the ninth consecutive night, asserting that it had targeted military sites and communications networks to keep Tehran from attacking vessels in the Strait of Hormuz.

Iran reported that it responded by striking in Syria and hitting a US aircraft parked at Jordan’s Aqaba airport. Kuwait said it intercepted Iranian drones while Turkish air patrols increased surveillance in the area.

Several Iranian cities, including Tabriz, Chabahar and Bandar Mahshahr, were reported to have been hit. State media also claimed that two oil tankers exploded while crossing the strait, although US sources disputed the assertion.

Iranian Revolutionary Guard threatened that the strait would not be safe for transit until the US strikes ended and warned of a punitive operation. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said the United States remains open to diplomatic solutions.

Meanwhile, a service member lost his life after an Iranian attack in northern Iraq over the weekend, adding to the casualties from recent attacks in Jordan.
