A suicide attack outside a court in Pakistan's capital Islamabad has killed 12 people and injured at least 27 more, the country's interior minister said.

Mohsin Naqvi mentioned that the bomber was attempting to attack the district courthouse but was unable to gain access.

Naqvi stated that authorities would prioritize identifying the bomber, pledging that the involved parties would be brought to justice.

Such suicide blasts in Islamabad have been infrequent in recent years. Footage from the scene depicted the remains of a burned car and a police cordon securing the area.

The injured individuals are reportedly receiving medical treatment, as confirmed by Naqvi.

The attacker detonated the bomb close to a police vehicle after allegedly waiting up to 15 minutes.

Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari condemned the suicide blast, expressing strong disapproval of the violence.

Witness Rustam Malik, a lawyer parking outside the court during the attack, recounted hearing a "loud bang" and described the subsequent panic. He noted, It was complete chaos, as lawyers and others fled towards the safety of the court complex. I saw two dead bodies lying at the gate and several cars were on fire, he added.
