Princess Astrid of Norway died aged 94 in Oslo, 48 hours after her brother King Harald V’s funeral service.
King Haakon VIII praised her for representing the Royal House “with warmth and duty” throughout her long life.
Princess Astrid served as Norway’s first lady from 1954 until 1968, and spent many years championing care for society’s vulnerable.
Her health had recently declined; in March she was treated for pneumonia.
The funeral drew European royalty, heads of state and ordinary citizens; the Princess attended the ceremony from a wheelchair.
Norway commemorated her with a state burial and flags flying at half‑mast across the country.
