Jennifer An, a former America’s Next Top Model contestant, alleges that in 2010 he was choked by rapper Kanye West during a music video shoot for La Roux’s "In For The Kill".

"I felt suffocated, unsure, and scared," An told the BBC’s Fame Under Fire podcast, describing West’s unexpected choking and a forced, makeup‑dripped improvisation that he claimed was an homage to "American Psycho".

West’s lawyers contest the claim, saying the interaction was part of a theatrical performance and that An did not protest or express lack of consent during the encounter. An’s attorney asserts that the encounter could set a dangerous precedent for artists to "do whatever they want" in creative spaces.

The lawsuit, filed under New York City’s Gender‑Motivated Violence Protection Act, seeks to extend the statute of limitations for survivors and has yet to go to trial. The case underscores the importance of consent, health and safety standards in high‑profile creative industries.

West has not responded to the BBC’s request for clarification on whether he spoke to An prior to the alleged actions. He remains a contentious figure due to his past antisemitic remarks and, more broadly, his fluctuating public persona.

As the case unfolds, industry observers and activists argue for clearer regulations and stronger safeguarding procedures on sets to protect performers and promote safer working environments in the arts.
