The Duchess of Sussex has attempted to contact her estranged father, Thomas Markle, who is reported to be seriously ill in hospital in the Philippines. A spokesman for Meghan confirmed her outreach, stating, I can confirm she has reached out to her father.

Mr. Markle is said to have undergone leg amputation surgery, and while Meghan tried to make contact today, it remains unclear if she was successful in her attempts. The once-close relationship between Meghan and her father deteriorated notably before her wedding to Prince Harry in 2018.

As media scrutiny intensified around Thomas Markle leading up to the wedding, it was revealed that he had collaborated with photographers for staged photos. Amid the fallout, he withdrew from attending the wedding, citing health issues, leaving King Charles III to walk Meghan down the aisle instead.

Reports suggest that since her marriage, Meghan and Thomas have not rehabilitated their relationship, with Thomas reportedly not meeting Meghan’s children, Archie and Lilibet.

He has voiced his criticism of Meghan and Harry's decision to step back from royal duties, once describing them as lost souls during an interview, questioning their direction and sense of purpose.
