In a recent announcement, Serigne Mamadou Mboup, head of Senegal's tourism development agency, revealed that the grand Akon City project, initially designed to cost around $6 billion and to feature new cryptocurrency Akoin, is officially off the table. After five years of stalled progress and empty promises, the site in Mbodiène, located 100 kilometers from Dakar, remains largely undeveloped, with no significant infrastructure apart from an incomplete reception building.
