Lawyer Nasser Odeh reported that Dr Hussam Abu Safiya, a Gaza hospital director, was severely beaten inside Rakefet interrogation facility, nearly losing consciousness.
Abu Safiya, detained since December 2024, was originally taken as the Israeli military alleged he had ties to Hamas’ medical wing.
Odeh described bruises and visible signs of torture, and urgent medical neglect, while the Israel Prison Service rejects the allegations, citing legality.
International entities, including the UN Committee against Torture and Physicians for Human Rights Israel, are calling for immediate release and urgent medical care.
The Israel Supreme Court is now pressed to answer the petition demanding Abu Safiya’s release, as the case raises broader concerns about arbitrary detention.
