Eurostar and Le Shuttle services between the UK and France have resumed through the Channel Tunnel after major travel disruption on Tuesday.

Thousands of passengers faced hours of delays after Eurostar cancelled most of its London to Europe services due to an overhead power supply issue and a failed Le Shuttle train which blocked all routes.

Repair work took place overnight and rail services through the tunnel in both directions resumed on Wednesday morning.

However, Eurostar urged passengers to check before travelling as there may still be knock-on delays and last-minute cancellations.

Most of Eurostar's services in and out of London St Pancras have since been restored, with only three being cancelled. The high-speed rail operator has apologised for the inconvenience caused and plans to run all of its services, although travelers are advised to check for updates on Eurostar's website.

One extra service from London to Paris will run on Wednesday, and passengers are entitled to enhanced compensation including a full refund and additional vouchers.

Le Shuttle services from Folkestone are now operating normally, although there remain delays of about an hour at Calais.

The Channel Tunnel, busy during the New Year travel rush, was disrupted significantly, stranding hundreds of travelers overnight and causing long traffic jams for vehicles attempting to use Le Shuttle.

Images of large crowds at London St Pancras International have circulated on social media after the outages. Creative solutions were utilized by some passengers to reach their destinations despite the chaos, including biking and ferrying.
