An Austrian Airlines flight from Tel Aviv to Vienna was forced to divert to Sofia, Bulgaria, after a bomb threat was reported on board.

The Airbus A320, flight 82, carried 51 passengers and six crew members. Air traffic controllers received the alert while the aircraft was over Romania, and within 30 minutes the plane landed at Vasil Levski Airport.

Bulgarian air force MiG‑29 jets were scrambled to escort the aircraft, and a full security sweep was carried out once the jet touched down. Authorities confirmed that no injuries were sustained by the crew or passengers.

The incident follows recent security scares on commercial flights, including a flydubai cockpit attack that ended with a safe landing in Saudi Arabia. Air safety experts warn that heightened vigilance is essential as threats to passenger safety continue to surface worldwide.

Investigation into the threat has begun, with Austrian Airlines confirming the report without further details. Flydubai and Lufthansa officials are expected to release statements on the matter in the coming days.

The event underscores the need for robust protocols in aircraft security, a priority shared by global aviation authorities as they refine measures against potential threats.
