In brief

Amid ongoing military conflict, Lebanon's healthcare system is on the brink as hospitals are forced to close or struggle to operate under dangerous conditions.

The ongoing conflict between Israeli forces and Hezbollah has left Lebanon's hospitals severely strained, with the United Nations highlighting the widening "targeting of health and relief operations." St. Therese Hospital in Beirut's outskirts, among several others, has been shuttered due to damage from nearby airstrikes. Hospital director Elie Hachem expressed his concerns over the closure as vital medical infrastructure is being compromised. The World Health Organization reports that at least nine hospitals in Lebanon are now either closed or only partially functional. As the conflict's impact magnifies, the healthcare system in Lebanon faces overwhelming challenges, struggling to provide essential services amidst the violence.
