**Growing Dissent in Israel Amid Escalating Gaza Conflict**

As protests rise against government military actions, voices for peace become louder in Israel.

Public sentiment shifts from support to opposition regarding the ongoing war in Gaza as more Israelis call for an end to violence.

In the midst of escalating violence in Gaza, public sentiment within Israel is shifting dramatically, as an increasing number of citizens express anger and disapproval of the government's military conduct. Prominent Israeli figures, such as Yair Golan, a former deputy commander of the Israel Defense Forces, have openly criticized the country’s actions, highlighting concerns that Israel risks becoming a "pariah state," much like South Africa during its apartheid era. His comments sparked backlash from Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who termed them "blood libel."

Yet, the dissent is growing. Former Defence Minister Moshe "Bogi" Ya'alon condemned the situation as a destructive government policy, diverging from the staunch support seen even months earlier after Hamas's deadly incursion. Recent statistics reveal that 61% of Israelis now favor ending the war and prioritizing the release of hostages, contrasting sharply with the 25% who advocate for expanding the conflict in Gaza.

Moreover, as Israel intensifies its military offensive, with a limited humanitarian aid entering Gaza and the health system collapsing under pressure, protests are gathering momentum. Recently, around 500 demonstrators marching from Sderot to the Gaza border were met with arrests, advocating for a ceasefire and highlighting the humanitarian crisis unfolding in Gaza through powerful imagery of young victims.

Former hostage negotiator Gershon Baskin noted that many families of hostages believe a resolution is key to also ensuring the safety of their loved ones. A recent protest led by the anti-war group Standing Together indicates a burgeoning awareness and concern for the ongoing conflict's impact on both sides.

The international community is also responding to the situation, with the UK implementing sanctions against Israel and re-evaluating its trade relations. The EU is considering a review of its long-standing agreements with Israel, joining calls from multiple nations urging an immediate cessation of hostilities.

"People are starting to realize that continuation of the war is not only detrimental to Palestinian civilians but also poses risks to the lives of all Israeli citizens," said Uri Weltmann, a member of Standing Together, emphasizing the evolving perspective among the Israeli populace. As projected outcomes and public opinions continue to shift, the outlook for peace remains a crucial necessity in the region.
