Pope Leo XIV Embraces Legacy and Mission in First Sunday Address

Pope Leo XIV held a significant first Sunday blessing and addressed the crowd in St. Peter's Square at the Vatican today, marking his initial public appearance since being elected on Thursday. Pope Leo, who adopted his papal name from a 19th-century pope known for advocating social justice, highlighted his vision for the future of the Church. He is expected to meet with the media on Monday, prior to his inauguration, where he will likely expand on his priorities for the Church, which includes advocating for the environment and emphasizing human dignity in the face of modernization.

In his inaugural address to thousands of congregants, Pope Leo encouraged unity and collaboration to pursue peace and justice within the Catholic community comprising over 1.4 billion members worldwide, reaffirming his passion to lead a Church that stands in solidarity with those in need.
