Musical sensation Angélique Kidjo has etched her name in history as the first Black African performer awarded a star on the iconic Hollywood Walk of Fame. The singer, hailing from the West African nation of Benin, was recently included in the esteemed 2026 class, alongside prominent figures such as Miley Cyrus and actor Timothée Chalamet. The announcement came during a press briefing where Kidjo, often referred to as Africa's "premier diva," was rightfully celebrated for her decades-long contribution to music.

At 64 years old, Kidjo's career spans over 40 years and 16 studio albums, captivating audiences worldwide with her powerful vocals and innovative blend of West African music, funk, jazz, and R&B. Some of her notable collaborations include artists like Burna Boy, Sting, and Alicia Keys, showcasing her versatility and influence across genres.

In a chain of firsts, Kidjo not only joins the ranks of Hollywood honorees but also stands alongside Charlize Theron, the South African actress who received her star back in 2005. An official date for Kidjo's star unveiling has yet to be announced, as recipients have two years to coordinate their ceremonies once selected.
