MINNEAPOLIS (Echosphere) — A 12-year-old girl, Sophia Forchas, critically injured in a recent shooting incident at a Catholic church in Minneapolis, is making remarkable progress in her recovery. Just weeks after the tragic event, her family shared that Sophia is transitioning from acute care into an inpatient rehabilitation program.

Sophia was one of the most severely injured among the victims of the shooting at the Church of the Annunciation, where a gunman opened fire during a school Mass, tragically resulting in the deaths of two students and injuries to many others. Medical professionals initially expressed uncertainty regarding Sophia's survival, but her condition has surprisingly improved, showcasing signs of neurological recovery.

The Forchas family has expressed their deep gratitude for the support they’ve received during this trying time. Sophia is strong, brave, and unwavering in her fight toward healing. We ask that you continue to pray for her as she walks this road to recovery. It is by God’s will that she has come this far, they stated in a recent update.

Sophia's ordeal began unexpectedly; her mother, a nurse, discovered her daughter had been shot only after arriving at work to aid other victims. Sophia underwent emergency surgery, wherein a bullet was lodged in her brain, necessitating the removal of part of her skull to alleviate pressure.

Despite the lengthy path to recovery that lies ahead, her family remains hopeful. Though she still has a long journey ahead, filled with extensive therapy, her resilience continues to inspire hope at every step, they conveyed.
