American Airlines has announced that it will offer free high-speed Wi-Fi to its AAdvantage loyalty program members on the majority of its flights beginning in January 2026. This move positions the airline among the leading domestic carriers in providing complimentary in-flight internet access.
Passengers flying on about 90% of the airline’s fleet will be able to stay connected without the burden of internet fees, which currently start at around $9 per flight. The initiative reflects the preferences of travelers who enjoy communicating, working, and streaming entertainment while aboard. Heather Garboden, the chief customer officer at American Airlines, emphasized the importance of connectivity for their passengers in the announcement.
To facilitate this new service, American Airlines has partnered with telecommunications giant AT&T, supported by satellite service providers Viasat and Intelsat. In preparation, the airline is on track to equip over 500 regional aircraft with the necessary high-speed wireless technology by the end of this year.

Delta Air Lines started offering free internet through its SkyMiles program in 2023, while United Airlines announced its partnership with Starlink, founded by Elon Musk, for in-flight internet services.
