British pubs are currently confronting an unexpected dilemma: a shortage of Guinness, the beloved Irish stout. This issue emerged last week when Diageo, the parent company of Guinness, made the decision to limit the number of barrels that U.K. wholesalers and bars can purchase each week.

“Over the past month, we have seen exceptional consumer demand for Guinness,” Diageo stated, recognizing the surge in popularity of the iconic drink. “We have maximized supply and are proactively working with our customers to manage distribution efficiently.”

Once viewed primarily as an older generation’s drink, Guinness has swiftly become a favorite among Gen Z drinkers, driven by a combination of clever marketing, influencer promotions, and social media enthusiasm. A trending challenge known as “split the G,” where participants aim to drink enough to leave a foam signature on the branded pint glass, has added to its notoriety.

However, the excitement surrounding Guinness has come at a price, as many pubs are now struggling to secure enough stock to meet festive demands.
