The comedian faces multiple sexual assault charges connected to incidents from 1999 to 2005, with a trial set for June 2026.**
Russell Brand has officially entered a plea of not guilty regarding several serious charges, including rape, sexual assault, and indecent assault, during a court hearing in London. The 49-year-old comedian, actor, and broadcaster appeared at Southwark Crown Court where he rejected the five accusations leveled against him.
The specific charges include one count of rape, one of indecent assault, one count of oral rape, and two counts of sexual assault. These alleged incidents took place in central London and Bournemouth between the years 1999 and 2005, with allegations involving four different women.
Brand is specifically accused of oral rape and sexual assault of one woman in July 2004, as well as a separate rape allegation from 1999 against another victim. He also faces charges for indecently assaulting a woman by forcibly pulling her towards a male restroom in 2001, and for kissing and groping another woman between 2004 and 2005.
Entering the court, Brand was dressed in a dark suit and unbuttoned shirt, maintaining silence as he walked past reporters and crowds. In the courtroom, he confirmed his name and responded with "not guilty" to each charge presented to him before exiting with sunglasses on, flanked by security.
Brand's legal troubles began when he was charged in April. He previously addressed his followers via video, asserting his innocence and expressing gratitude for the chance to defend himself in court. The media personality, who has captured audiences through various entertainment mediums, including stand-up and television, remains on conditional bail until his trial, which is set to begin on June 3, 2026. A pre-trial review is also scheduled for May 20, 2026.
